(26) As-Shu'araa: The Poets

سورة الشعراء

فَلَمَّا جَاء السَّحَرَةُ قَالُوا لِفِرْعَوْنَ أَئِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحْنُ الْغَالِبِينَ
41. So when came did the sorcerers they said to Pharaoh, "Is there for us surely a reward if we are ever, us, the conquerors?"

قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّمِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ
42. He said, "Yes, and assuredly you are then surely from the ones drawn near."

قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَى أَلْقُوا مَا أَنتُم مُّلْقُونَ
43. Said to them did Moses, "Cast whatever you are casting."

فَأَلْقَوْا حِبَالَهُمْ وَعِصِيَّهُمْ وَقَالُوا بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الْغَالِبُونَ
44. So they cast their ropes and their sticks and said, "By the esteem of Pharaoh, assuredly we, surely us, are the conquerors!"

فَأَلْقَى مُوسَى عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ
45. Then cast did Moses his stick; so there it is, snapping up what they were hoaxing.

فَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سَاجِدِينَ
46. So they were cast, the sorcerers, prostrating.

قَالُوا آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
47. They said, "We have faith in the Lord of the worlds.."

رَبِّ مُوسَى وَهَارُونَ
48. "...the Lord of Moses and Aaron."

قَالَ آمَنتُمْ لَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ آذَنَ لَكُمْ إِنَّهُ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ الَّذِي عَلَّمَكُمُ السِّحْرَ فَلَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَافٍ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
49. He said, "You have faith for him before I permit you? Assuredly he is your elder, the one who taught you the sorcery, so you shall know.... I will surely sever your hands and your legs from different (sides), and I will surely crucify you all together."

قَالُوا لَا ضَيْرَ إِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ
50. They said, "No harm, assuredly we are unto our Lord rotating (back)."

إِنَّا نَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَايَانَا أَن كُنَّا أَوَّلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
51. "Assuredly we covet that forgives for us does our Lord our wrongs, if we are the first of the faithful."

وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى مُوسَى أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِي إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ
52. And We inspired Moses thus: "Journey by night with My slaves, assuredly you are to be followed."

فَأَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَاشِرِينَ
53. So sent did Pharaoh into the cities, massers.

إِنَّ هَؤُلَاء لَشِرْذِمَةٌ قَلِيلُونَ
54. "Assuredly those are surely a little scrap."

وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَائِظُونَ
55. "And assuredly they are unto us enraging."

وَإِنَّا لَجَمِيعٌ حَاذِرُونَ
56. "And we are all together, wary."

فَأَخْرَجْنَاهُم مِّن جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
57. So We evicted them from gardens and springs...

وَكُنُوزٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ
58. ...and treasures and gracious position.

كَذَلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَاهَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
59. Thus We bequeathed it (to) the Children of Israel.

فَأَتْبَعُوهُم مُّشْرِقِينَ
60. So they followed them towards sunrise.
