(26) As-Shu'araa: The Poets

سورة الشعراء

إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
121. Assuredly in that is a sign, and not were the abundance of them faithful.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
122. And assuredly your Lord is surely He, The Esteemed, The Most Merciful.

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
123. Belied did 'Aad, the messengers.

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
124. For, said to them did their brother Hud, "Do you venerate not?"

إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
125. "Assuredly I am unto you a trustworthy messenger."

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
126. "So venerate Allah, and obey me."

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
127. "And I ask you not for it any reward, indeed my reward is but upon the Lord of the worlds."

أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ آيَةً تَعْبَثُونَ
128. "Do you build in every upland a sign, dallying?"

وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ
129. "And you take to production so you might be eternal."

وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُم بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ
130. "And when you assault, you assault as compellers."

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
131. "So venerate Allah, and obey me."

وَاتَّقُوا الَّذِي أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ
132. "And venerate the One who extended to you what you know."

أَمَدَّكُم بِأَنْعَامٍ وَبَنِينَ
133. "He extended to you livestock and children..."

وَجَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
134. "...and gardens, and springs."

إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
135. "Assuredly I fear for you the torment of a grand day."

قَالُوا سَوَاء عَلَيْنَا أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُن مِّنَ الْوَاعِظِينَ
136. They said, "It is equal to us whether you exhort or are not from the exhorters."

إِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
137. "Indeed this is but the temperament of the earlier (ones)."

وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
138. "And not are we to be from the tormented."

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
139. So they belied him, thus We destroyed them. Assuredly in that is a sign, and not were the abundance of them faithful.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
140. And assuredly your Lord is surely He, The Esteemed, The Most Merciful.
