(26) As-Shu'araa: The Poets

سورة الشعراء

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
141. Belied did Thamud, the messengers.

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ صَالِحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
142. For, said to them did their brother Saleh, "Do you venerate not?"

إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
143. "Assuredly I am unto you a trustworthy messenger."

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
144. "So venerate Allah, and obey me."

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
145. "And I ask you not for it any reward, indeed my reward is but upon the Lord of the worlds."

أَتُتْرَكُونَ فِي مَا هَاهُنَا آمِنِينَ
146. "Are you to be left in what is right here, secure?"

فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
147. "In gardens and springs...

وَزُرُوعٍ وَنَخْلٍ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌ
148. "...and plants and palms of lush emergence?"

وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا فَارِهِينَ
149. "And you carve from the mountains homes, deftly."

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
150. "So venerate Allah, and obey me."

وَلَا تُطِيعُوا أَمْرَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ
151. "And obey not the order of the excessive."

الَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ
152. "The ones who corrupt on Earth and they rectify not."

قَالُوا إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِينَ
153. They said, "In fact, you are from the ensorcelled."

مَا أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِآيَةٍ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
154. "And you are naught but a human similar to us; so bring a sign if you are ever from the truthful."

قَالَ هَذِهِ نَاقَةٌ لَّهَا شِرْبٌ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
155. He said, "This is a she-camel, for her is a drink and for you is a drink; (each) on a known day."

وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
156. "And touch her not with ill lest takes you does the torment of a grand day."

فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصْبَحُوا نَادِمِينَ
157. So they wounded her, thus they became regretful.

فَأَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
158. So took them did the torment; assuredly in that is a sign, and not were the abundance of them faithful.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
159. And assuredly your Lord is surely He, The Esteemed, The Most Merciful.
